CHARACTERISTICS OF CASPIAN SEA
The Caspian Sea unique and rich of natural resources located in the large depression, on the border of two big parts of the single Eurasian continent.
Etymology and formation
The Caspian Sea is the largest enclosed inland body of water on Earth by area. It is a lake by geographical definition and it has been registered in the Guinness book (I.Zonn, 1998). However, it is called Caspian Sea because of its dimensions, characteristics, hydro-meteorological regime and fauna which make it more similar to sea.
The names of the Caspian Sea come from cities, provinces peoples, who lived on its shores. In general, in different time, different peoples gave about 70 names to this Sea.
The formation of the Caspian Sea started 10 million years ago, and during this time a few transgression and regression phases of its different height levels have occurred.
Modern physical parameters and geographical features
It should be noted that the physical parameters vary depending on the level of the sea. Five states are located along about 4800 km of Caspian coastline.
