THE IGG SCIENTISTS CONDUCTED THE RESEARCH OF THE KURA RIVER DELTA
10 November 2021
The research “Assessment of factors influencing the formation and transformation of the modern Kura River delta” was carried out in the ANAS Institute of Geology and Geophysics. Since 2020, this research has been jointly carried out by the IGG scientists and the employees Institute of Geography. The corresponding member of ANAS, Doctor of geological-mineralogical sciences Elmira Aliyeva is the research director.
The goal of the research is to detect the factors influencing the formation and development of the Kura River delta, to assess and develop 3D model of the river delta.
The delta area is located in the zone of contact between land and sea and is about 100 km². The zone plays a significant role in the industries of river navigation, fishing, etc. The Kura river diversion, the transformations, the accumulation processes in the marine delta with time are probably the factors influencing the evolution of the delta zone. The anthropogenic factors and global warming also contribute to this process. The fluctuation of the Caspian Sea level is also influenced the Kura River delta change.
It was decided to continue the research “Assessment of factors influencing the formation and transformation of the modern Kura River delta” 8719
