THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF THE AZERBAIJAN GEOGRAPHICAL SOCIETY PARTICIPATED IN AN EVENT DEDICATED TO THE YEAR OF URBAN PLANNING AND ARCHITECTURE IN AZERBAIJAN

On April 3, Mirnukh Ismayilov — Head of the “Landscape Studies and Nature Use” Laboratory at the Institute of Geography of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Chairman of the Board of the Azerbaijan Geographical Society, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Associate Professor — together with Irina Kuchinskaya (PhD in Geography, Associate Professor, Leading Researcher), Elina Karimova (PhD in Geography, Associate Professor, Senior Researcher), and senior laboratory assistant Shafiqa Valiyeva, participated in an interactive seminar on “Transformation in Urban Planning and Architecture” held at the Azerbaijan Academy of Labor and Social Relations.
The keynote presentation was delivered by Mirnukh Ismayilov on the topic of the transformation of natural landscapes under conditions of urbanization. In his speech, he thoroughly addressed issues related to the formation of the ecological framework of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the city of Baku, the development of green and hybrid corridor systems, and their role in ensuring the environmental sustainability of urban ecosystems. Special attention was given to the challenges associated with population growth, increasing building density, and the resulting environmental pressures.
Approaches to the rational organization of urban space were also presented, taking into account the principles of sustainable development, biodiversity conservation, and the improvement of environmental quality.
During the seminar, participants exchanged views on current issues in modern urban planning, the application of innovative technologies, and environmentally oriented solutions in architecture and territorial planning. The participants emphasized the importance of such events for fostering scientific dialogue and interdisciplinary cooperation.
