THE STAFF OF THE INSTITUTE OF GEOGRAPHY OF THE MINISTRY OF SCIENCE AND EDUCATION OF THE REPUBLIC OF AZERBAIJAN CONTINUE THEIR PARTICIPATION IN INTERNATIONAL EVENTS

On 20–22 April 2026, a virtual meeting titled “State of the Art Geopark Caucasus” was held jointly by the Institute of Geography, the Vakhushti Bagrationi Institute of Geography of Georgia, Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Justus Liebig University of Germany, and other partner organizations.

At the opening session, the Director of the Institute of Geography, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Associate Professor Zaur Imrani, and Senior Researcher of the “Landscape Science and Nature Use” laboratory, PhD in Geography, Associate Professor Elina Karimova, spoke about the importance of cooperation, achieved results, and ongoing work, and wished success to the virtual conference.

Then, a researcher of the “Population Geography” laboratory, PhD in Geography Bayimkhanim Huseynova, delivered a presentation titled “Geopark development in Azerbaijan: opportunities, obstacles and outlook.” In her presentation, she provided detailed information about Azerbaijan’s rich geological, historical, and cultural heritage, as well as potential areas and geosites suitable for geopark status in the country. The report was received with great interest by participants, and questions were answered.

At the end of the virtual meeting, future cooperation directions were discussed, and an agreement was reached to continue scientific research collaboration and joint participation in future projects in the coming years.
